As an educational researcher and English educator over several decades, I’ve juggled the tidal wave of commitments while trying to maintain some semblance of balance between school, teaching, writing, and personal life. I know all too well the guilt that comes with every missed “appointment with myself” and always wishing I had more to give.
Given my background,I know what it takes to develop sustainability and joy in education and writing again. As a researcher, I had to learn the hard way how to show up for myself, set the boundaries that would support my writing, and connect with the people and resources I needed to help myself along the way. As an English Educator, I’ve supported thousands of writers to find their voice, develop their skills, discover what they love (and don’t) about writing while simultaneously nurturing my own love for education. As a student – for what felt like a million years! – I’ve always had to navigate learning while maintaining momentum. That ALWAYS entails rest, and that might be one of the hardest – and most beautiful – gifts to give ourselves.
Education and writing have always been a journey, and they will continue to be.
However, I’m doing it: I’m defining my lines!
I want to help make this happen for you, too…
How can YOU do this?
I leaned into these five practices, and that’s why I’m sharing them with you. I want to help transform your education and writing experiences so as to restore sustainability and joy in the process, let alone great pride in your successes!
We will
- Restore a sense of purpose;
- Protect your time, energy, and integrity;
- Get clear on the requirements (or lack of them!) so we can liberate your creativity;
- Explore how momentum is different than motivation and get it working for you; and
- Personalize your process. Discover what is uniquely YOUR process and align it your practice with your actual life.
The following five blog posts explore each of these in depth and offer insights into how they can support you in your journey of defining your lines in education and writing.
Pillar 1: Restoring a Sense of Purpose
Pillar 2: Let’s Talk about Boundaries
Pillar 3: “We are freer than we think.” – Michel Foucault
Pillar 4: Momentum, the Elusive Panacea
Pillar 5: Personalize it!
