Fall back in love with education
Reconnect with what drew you to education in the first place.
Fall back in love with teaching
Do you need to rekindle your relationship with education? Have you lost touch with the things that made you fall in love with teaching in the first place? Do you increasingly feel overlooked and pushed out by external demands, be it the administration you work for, state and federal standards, busyness and overwork, toxic school/community culture, or burnout?
Reconnect with your why in teaching
At Define Your Lines, I work with educators from all backgrounds for the express purpose of nurturing—in community—what we love about our work, alongside or in spite of the tidal wave of demands that come with what we do.
We need sanctuary. We need space to heal and grow.

Frequently Asked Questions
Expand the questions below to learn more
Do you work with educators who want to improve their students’ performance on standardized test scores?
While this in and of itself may be a very worthy goal for you, it is less connected for me to your internal motivations and more connected to addressing external demands. If, however, you feel they overlap, let’s talk!
Do you work with educators who are not teachers in schools?
Absolutely. Some of my favorite personal experiences in education have occurred in what is often called contexts of informal education. In fact, I welcome the creativity such educational opportunities provide for thinking about purpose and how what we do as educators can deepen our connection to it.
Do you offer subject area curricular expertise? If so, which ones?
I am a certified secondary English Language Arts teacher with approximate 30 years of classroom teaching experience. I also teach advanced learners of English as an Additional Language. Finally, I love working with preservice and inservice educators. Secondary English teacher education is a primary component of my PhD in Curriculum, instruction, and Teacher Education from Michigan State University.
What if I’m unsure of what my pedagogical and curricular goals are beyond reconnecting with my love for and reigniting my passion in education?
It’s an excellent place to start, particularly if you are struggling to stay well kindled, i.e. with burnout. Identifying these things can grow out of reconnecting to what made you passionate about teaching in the first place.
